Short drop, sudden stop
Tension, then release
Short drop, sudden stop
Black and ivory keys
Short drop, sudden stop
Reverberations cease
Quick drops, sudden stops
Thoughts full of jumbled pleas
Quick drops and sudden stops
A heartbeat and then peace.
(Note: Normally I leave poetry to the mind of the beholder, but as this is part of a Lenten piece I feel I should explain. Yes, the phrase came from a hangman's rope. No the poem isn't about death or suicide. It's about the end of a song, that final note. And because my mind is strange and I like to misappropriate things, I ended up with this)
