Fingers on a window pane
Tapping, faces flash
Quickly in and out of sight
Changes in the light
Eyes blink or disappear
Tapping, someone's here?
Or raindrops on the glass
Fearful just the same.
Darkness and pulse quickens
Dead leaves crunch and crack
Every sound a stranger
Every twig means danger
Eyes burn against the black
Approaching heart attack
The clenching in my chest and back
The plot begins to thicken.
Awake! Awake! To Madness
Drenched skies begin to burn!
Flee! Yes, Flee the sadness
Of nightmares claiming turns
Rise and face the daylight
Dead hearts stilled by fright
The window empty, friendly
The tapping sleeps till night.
